Testing Network Connectivity

There are 2 simple network tests that you can run from your computer to test if your network connectivity to your server is working properly.

Ping
<hr />The first test is using the "ping" utility.  To use this tool, click on the Start menu:


In the search box in the start menu, type in "cmd", and press the Enter key.  This will pull up a DOS like program that looks like this:


You can type into this program.  Type the command "ping", and then enter your domain name, or IP address, then press Enter:


You will be given network test results, like this:


Trace Route
<hr />Performing a tracert (trace route) will show you all the routing points between you and the destination server.  This also shows timeouts and other potential network problems.  To perform this test, first open the "cmd" program as shown in the steps for Ping.  Then, type the command "tracert" and then the domain name or IP address of the server, then press Enter:


Then you will see the results like this:
