Can I change my domain name?

Yes, you can change the domain name on your website by following the steps below:

  1. Register your new domain name (sorry, once a domain is registered, you must register a new name, you can't change the domain name on an existing registration). The easiest way to register a domain for use with our service is through our service.
  2. After your new domain is registered, update the domain registration to use the following name servers:

If you would prefer, we can make the above change for you.  Note that if you registered the domain somewhere other than DomainRocket that you'll need to send us the URL and login information for your domain registration service (change your password to something temporary that you don't mind sharing over email).

  1. Send us a request to change the domain name on your hosting plan.  Be sure to let us know what the old name was and what the new domain will be.  We will set up the old domain name as an alias that points to the new name.

A few things to be aware of:

  1. If you keep the old domain name registered, it will continue to work as an alias for your website and email addresses.
  2. Your FTP username will change to match the new domain name.
  3. Email accounts that existed on the old domain will now exist on the new domain.
  4. If you had used full URLs in the HTML of your website, the old name will show up in the user's browser address bar.  To prevent this from happening, update the links on your website to use relative URLs (best practice) or change the domain name used on your full URLs.
